BioMerlin stands 6'8" tall, and muscular at this point in his life, not yet prone to the thinness he will manifest later. His eyes are green blue and his hair is a very dark brown verging on black at times. This is all for his base form.
Merlin was begotten by a devil from hell on a virgin as an intended Antichrist. But his expectant mother, advised by her confessor and counselor Blaise who realized what was amiss, had the boy baptized at birth to foil this Satanic plot. However, being half-demon, Merlin still had some inherent magical powers which, at times, allowed him to know what was happening past and present. God himself gave him prophetic knowledge of the future, though it was an unpredictable gift.
The most reliable of Merlin's powers at this stage is the ability to change his shape. Merlin's master Blaise wrote down Merlin's deeds which Merlin dictated to him. Elsewise, that age would have passed from mind and time.
Among Merlin's other spells and powers are the abilities to cast energy bolts, cast others into sleep, travel great distances, and call animals. He is yet unlearned in his magic and it sometimes goes awry, but he is slowly growing in power and knowledge. He carries with him the Grimoires of his father and of the White Mage and counselor Blaise, so holding both white magic and black, and walking the grey line between both worlds.
Blaise raised him in many ways, teaching him white magic and helping him to dedicate his soul to God, even as he showed Merlin how he would have to walk the line. For as he was a half devil and could never truly walk the normal life of men. His destiny was paramount, to face the darkness, in the darkness, with the God's power around him.
In some ways, he is as much priest as he is mage and he is a member of an cloistered order, The Order of Thomas.

Merlin is from various legends, stories and authors, with my version being primarily drawn from the works of Robert de Boron's poem Merlin and Simon Greene's The Wizard of Camelot, with no infringement of copyright intended, then extrapolated further by myself, using Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae.
